Santo Domingo Pueblo iconic Thunderbird necklace-Keeping my ancestors memory alive through my jewelry designs
Iconic Santo Domingo "Kewa" Pueblo Inlaid Thunderbird pendant on a classic Santo Domingo Pueblo necklace design. This necklace has beautiful high quality turquoise nugget stones that I drilled and in-between the turquoise stones are authentic handmade heishi. The heishi is made from my mother's old stash of shells from the late 60's to early 70's. I've been blessed to have these shells she left me with and now being used to make heishi strands. Once these shells are used up in making the heishi strands thats it and there wont be any more available. I also made the two turquoise beads on each end of the necklace from rough Kingman turquoise. The sterling silver clasps are also handmade by me. I added my signature brand name "LeJeune" on the end of one side of the necklace. My brand is stamped onto a sterling silver disk bead. I inlaid & designed the Thunderbird with old vintage vinyl records as did our Santo Domingo Pueblo people did in the past. I also used natural black jet, Kingman turquoise and the white stones are gypsum, from the same place that my ancestors would get their gypsum from to make beads with. I Inlaid the Thunderbird onto natural Abalone shell. The Thunderbird is laid in a 3D shape onto Inlaid large turquoise stones. I attached the Thunderbird onto the Inlaid shell with natural Deer sinew, (Not imitation sinew). So I used alot of natural items as did my ancestral Pueblo people did. This piece as well as all my necklaces I make hold a special place in my heart. I design and create these designs to keep the memory of my ancestral Pueblo people alive through my jewelry designs.
